Hirado Flounder Festival - 平戸ひらめまつり
Event Explanation Hirado takes a leading position in the flounder fishing industry of Japan. In the flounder fishing season, you can enjoy tasty flounder dishes at various restaurants and hotels in the city.

Burning of the fields of Kawachi-tôge Pass - 川内峠野焼き
Event Explanation Every year in February the fields of Kawachi-tôge Pass, with about 30 hectares the largest grass fields in Saikai National Park are burned. These burning grass fields are quite a sight to see.

Konaki Crybaby Sumo - 子泣き相撲
Event Explanation The Konaki Crybaby Sumo is held annually at the Saikyô-ji Temple on `Setsubun`, or the beginning of spring. Two babies at a time are brought onto the sumo ring to compete. The first one to cry after the referee has shouted `Hakkeyoi` is the winner

Ikitsuki Road Race - いきつきロード大会
Event Explanation In this race, runners from Hirado as well from further afield come to compete. There are over twenty categories depending on age and distance. The race is quite popular as everyone is welcome to participate. It takes places along the coastline of Ikitsuki.

Lobster and Oyster Festival - エビ・カキ祭り
Event Explanation At this festival in central Hirado you can enjoyed two local delicacies: oysters and fan lobsters. Charcoal grills are set up along the waterside and whilst looking out over the harbour and Hirado Castle you can grill the oysters, lobsters and other fresh sea products.

Tabira Exhibition of Camellia and local products - 田平町つばき物産展
Event Explanation At the center of this exhibition are displays of various Camellia and local products. Other exhibitions include pictures and paintings drawn by children, Ikebana (flower arrangements), etc. At the exhibition one can also buy products from the region.

Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival - さくらまつり
Event Explanation

The Kameoka Park is well known for its cherry blossom trees. Flower watching can be enjoyed during the day as well as in the evening, when the nearby Hirado Castle is beautifully lit up.
