Kappa Festival - がわっぱ祭り
Event Explanation This festival is based on the old legend of the `Kappa`, a mischievous water creature in Japanese mythology. Amongst the events is the making of a 10 meter long `kappa-maki` sushi roll filled with cucumber which is named after the creature. Other `Kappa` related events are being held too like the `Gawappa Sumo`, a rope pulling game, and prayers against the drowning of children.

Tei Seiko Festival - 鄭成功祭り
Event Explanation Born in Hirado, the half-Japanese half Chinese Tei Seiko (Zheng Chenggong in Chinese) went to China at the age of seven and later became governor and founded the Tungning Kingdom in Taiwan. Jangara dances are held among others at this festival dedicated to Tei Seiko.

Tachiura Seribune Festival - 舘浦競漕船大会
Event Explanation

A boat race with traditional boats over a distance of 125 meters. Apart from the boat race itself, there are also various other small events to be held around the Tachiura port on Ikitsuki Island.

Hirado Haiya Fûjin Festival, Summer Celebrations - 平戸南風夜風人まつり-夏の陣
Event Explanation A collaboration of various events, such as a haunted house, a women’s arm wrestling competition, a lottery draw and dances on an open-air stage with a fireworks display as its grand finale.

Hirado Jangara - 平戸ジャンガラ
Event Explanation Jangara is a traditional dance from Hirado and the surrounding islands. Hirado Jangara is a dance festival praying for good harvest held in the nine districts of Hirado city. Flutes, gongs and drums accompany the dancers. Jangara has been named a National Intangible Cultural Asset. For 2010 it will be performed as follows: At Amida-ji Temple in Noko on the 14th, in Noko and Shijiki on the 14th, At most villages from Tsuyoshi up to Hôki on the 15th, in the Nakano area on the 16th, and in Hirado on the 18th.

Oshima Summer Festival and Fireworks Display - 大島村夏祭り花火大会
Event Explanation A day of various events such as an arm-wrestling competition, catching fish with bare hands, a tug of war on water and a traditional boat race. The finale is a big fireworks display.

Event Explanation This dance festival takes place near the Tachiura fishing port. Aside from dances, there are also various other events. In the evening the fireworks light up the Ikitsuki Ohashi bridge beautifully.

Tabira Summer Festival - たびら夏祭り
Event Explanation Many dances are performed and on the evening of the Tabira Summer Festival, a fireworks display is held with the Hirado Ohashi brigde as a backdrop. The fireworks reflecting in the water beneath are quite a sight and are the main event of the festival which is quite famous in the region.

Hirado Haiya Fûjin Festival, Autumn Celebrations - 平戸南風夜風人まつり-秋の陣-
Event Explanation A dance festival with the main focus on traditional Tasuke Haiya Bushi dances (an Intangible Cultural Property of Hirado). Many dance teams from out of town come to show their dances in the dance competition.

Two Day Walk - ひらどツーデーウォーク
Event Explanation Walks of various lengths, ranging from 6 to 33 kilometres, are set out on this weekend. One can walk on just one or on both days starting from Hirado and Ikitsuki Islands whilst passing landmarks on the way such as Hirado Ôhashi Bridge, Tabira Church, Obae lighthouse or Kawachi-tôge pass.
