Kawachi-tôge Pass

From the top of Kawachi-tôge Pass one has a unique panoramic view. To the west are the northern group of the Ninety-nine Islands, to the north the beginning of the Genkai Sea and further away one can spot Iki Island and Tsushima Island. The tanka poet Isamu Yoshii once stood at the top of Kawachi-tôge Pass and wrote the poem:

Praising these beautiful mountains
This lovely sea
I, the traveler,
am admiring Hirado
(Translation by Remco Vrolijk)
The poem is engraved in a stone located at the pass.

One can also find the stone where a local legend `Owatari Chôjya` used to offer salt to pray for good fortune and later became a millionaire (Chôjya in Japanese).

Every year on the first Sunday in February the burning of the fields of Kawachi Pass takes place (weather permitting). The fire spreading over the large fields is quite a sight to see and is a popular local event.

During the year it is used for various purposes, such as hiking and camping in summer and a cross country event in winter.

Tainohana Park

From the highest mountain in Hirado, Mount Yasuman-dake, a ridge stretches to the south. Tainohana Park is located at the end of this ridge. There are toilet facilities, parking spaces, spacious grassy areas with picnic tables and a viewing platform available. There are also a few walking paths.

From the viewing platform there are fantastic views to the west and south. Right under one’s nose is the village of Shishi and next to it Neshiko village where the Hirado Christian Museum is located and of course famous Neshiko beach. Various islands can be observed from here such as Ikitsuki Island and the two small twin islands of Ojika. Further in the distance are the Goto Islands
Tainohana Park is a popular place for overlooking Saikai National Park and to go and watch the sunset.
